<itunes:summary>Episode #100 has been 2 years in the making.

I am so excited to have Chris Guillebeau as my guest for this milestone episode. This project started as a small idea, a way for me to explore the possibilities, to see what else was out there, to pursue a passion.

What better way to mark this special moment than to be in conversation with the author who invites people to "reinvent the way they make a living, do what they love and create a new future."

Enjoy the conversation and thanks for being a part of this journey!

This week, we're in conversation with Erica Hanna. I was inspired by her story and I know you will be too!

Enjoy the conversation.
About Erica Hanna

Erica Hanna believes in making a difference. Inspired by her grandmother's suggestion that everyone in the family donate to a chosen charity instead of giving gifts, she has made giving back a priority over the past few years.

For her 29th birthday, she wanted to do something different. After a Google search and some research, Erica chose charity: water and launched a "Birthday Campaign." That campaign - done exclusively through social media and the charity: water platform raised more than $11,000.

When she's not raising money and awareness, Erica serves a Promotions Producer/Director/Editor at WCCO-TV, Minnesota's CBS affiliate. She is also an establish photographer and videographer and the owner of Puke Rainbows Photo/Video.

You can follow Erica online on the following network:

Facebook: Puke Rainbows Photo/Video
Twitter: @meeterica

I encourage you to visit and support Erica's latest fundraising project at charity: water by visiting this link.

<itunes:summary>Today - April 25, 2012 - is World Malaria Day and you have an opportunity to make a difference and help save lives.
Last year, I had the opportunity to interview author Michael Bungay Stanier. Michael is one of the driving forces behind the book titled End Malaria. Released last year, the book is a collection of essays by 62 of America’s favorite business authors, including Tom Peters, Nicholas Carr, Pam Slim, and Sir Ken Robinson. Organized into three main sections—Focus, Courage, and Resilience — all essays in End Malaria share a desire to inspire readers to look within themselves for solutions to their everyday dilemmas and for motivation to realize their desires.
I've read the book and I highly recommend it. The essays are great and you can help save lives.
Get your copy of the book today and $20 from the purchase of each copy of End Malaria will go to Malaria No More to send a mosquito net to a family in need and to support life-saving work in the fight against malaria.

<itunes:summary>Twenty-four years ago my parents provided me with an opportunity of a lifetime. Following high school, I traveled the world with the international group Up with People. The program continues to make a difference in the lives of young people and communities all over the world.

Last year, the mission of Up with People came to life in a different way at Camp Up with People. This week we are in conversation with Camp Up with People's camp director, Tim Lane.

If you are between the ages of 14 and 17 or have kids that age, I encourage you to check out Camp Up with People!

Enjoy the conversation.
About Camp Up with People
Camp Up with People is a non-profit performing arts summer camp that brings together students from around the world to impact and inspire the community through service and song. Through outdoor activities, service projects and staging, campers will gain a sense of social responsibility, as well as the skills and appreciation of working cooperatively as part of a diverse group. Each session will culminate with an on-stage capstone performance.

Camp Up with People is located in the heart of the beautiful Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, approximately two hours from Washington D.C.
About Tim Lane, Camp Up With People Director

Tim Lane has worked for Up with People, for nearly 25 years, serving in various management capacities.

Tim has a passion for making a difference in young people’s lives, helping them to grow in confidence and realize that the best way to make a difference in your own life, is to make a difference in someone else’s life. During the school year he lives in Colorado with his wife, and enjoys time with his children and grandchildren.

Note: Tim was the Cast Director of Cast B88 - my assigned cast when I traveled as a student with Up with People. I returned to work for Up with People on their production staff from 1993-1995.

About Cassandra Silveira

Cassandra Silveira is a registered dietician and education coordinator at Dream of Wild Health (DWH). DWH began in 1998 as a program of Peta Wakan Tipi, a St. Paul based non-profit that provides transitional housing for American Indian people in recovery.

At the heart of Dream of Wild Health is a collection of more than 300 rare heirloom seeds that have been donated by tribes and families from around the country. In addition to growing out a select number of heirloom seeds each year, they raise organic vegetables for sale at Farmers Markets in the Twin Cities, and provide educational programs for Native youth and families. They also partner with urban organizations on programs that work to restore the mental, physical, and emotional health of our community.

<itunes:summary>I am a fan of public radio. I've been fortunate enough to have hosted conversations with both Dick Gordon and Bob Edwards - two of my favorite public radio interviewers - for this podcast.

Earlier this year, I discovered the 99% Invisible podcast thanks to a recommendation made by my Stitcher app. I've been hooked ever since!

Our guest, Roman Mars, is the producer and host of this great podcast! I was delighted when he accepted my invitation to be on the "other side" of the microphone.

Enjoy the conversation!

<itunes:summary>Our guest this week, Dan Moe, is the owner of The Farm of Minnesota, a CSA just north of Hutchinson, MN.

Community-supported agriculture (CSA) began in the early 1960s in Germany, Switzerland and Japan as a response to concerns about food safety and the urbanization of agricultural land. The idea took root in the US in the early 1980's. Get more information on CSA's by visiting this link.

Enjoy the conversation!
About Dan Moe

Dan Moe's life at The Farm goes all the way back to the late 1960's, when it was owned by his grandfather. After spending one summer by his grandfather's side working on the farm he was hooked! He left Minnesota to attend college in California, and after coming to the decision that I was not engineering-minded, he opted to buy a cactus and succulent nursery. He later transitioned to running an avocado ranch.

In 1980 Dan had an opportunity to come back to the family farm when his grandfather retired. He was to busy and involved with the avocados and could not take advantage of this opportunity to migrate back to Minnesota. That opportunity came again 20 years later. Dan, along with his wife Donna, came back to Minnesota in 2000 and slowly began taking over a few acres of the family farm while leasing out the remainder to help cover costs. After a number of years experimenting and getting used to farming in Minnesota (different weather you know), they came across something new to them - Community Supported Agriculture.

This model seemed to fit perfectly with Dan's absolute passion to bring highly nutritional food to the world.

As a result, I am reading as much as I can about running and training for such an event. A few weeks ago, while searching for something, I came across our guest's website and was immediately captivated by his story.

Jim Lynch has run 87 marathons and he's in the process of writing his memoir! I made a point to reach out to him that same evening — I love the power of social media! — and booked him for the podcast!

Enjoy our conversation!

About Jim Lynch

Jim Lynch made his debut on a cold, wintery day in March of 1957, in Erie, Pennsylvania. The youngest of five siblings, his father was a salesman; his mother a nurse. His world was rocked when his father died suddenly when he was ten; and shattered when his mother died right after he graduated from high school. Jim Lynch was literally on his own.

Life has not always been as easy for Jim. After a series of devastating personal and professional low points, Jim’s friends, family, and what Jim feels was divine guidance, got him back on his feet. He vowed to never get to that low point again in his life. From that time on, things changed tremendously.

Since his first marathon in 1989, he has completed a marathon in all 50 states, and now has a total of 87 marathons under his belt. He is actively involved in his running group and a member of the Colorado Runners Association. Many have been inspired by Jim’s running accomplishments, and he continues to be inspired by the accomplishments of others.

He is now sharing his life stories and how running defined him in his upcoming and anticipated book, One Foot in Front of the Other, which will be published in early 2012. His hope is that this book will inspire and motivate, and allow others to reflect a little and become a champion in their own life.

About Jeff Gau

Since he was young, Jeff Gau has proven that success is not dependent on being the brightest, but rather a leader who produces more leaders than followers. “I’m a B student who was not good at math or science. Yet, I am running a successful technology company.”

A destined leader, Jeff joined the U.S. Air Force out of high school. While focused on gaining money to go to college, Jeff received a series of prestigious promotions – well before his time. He graduated from the University of North Dakota in three years and immediately took his charismatic leadership and relentless work ethic to his first sales position.

Since taking the helm at Marco in 2005, Jeff has led the company through aggressive growth and opportunities. Jeff has transformed what started as a small typewriter dealer in 1973 into a rapidly growing technology and office equipment company with offices throughout the Upper Midwest.

We highly recommend you check out Jeff's Leadership Culture Blog!

My youngest daughter attends a Montessori school and my wife is one assignment away for receiving her Montessori Certification. That being said, the idea of Montessori is still foreign to me. I found my conversation with Syneva very enlightening.

About David Hunt & Critical Measures

David Hunt is one of the nation’s leading experts on cultural competence in healthcare and diversity-related issues in law and business. Prior to entering the diversity field, David worked for national public policy think-tanks on health policy matters and practiced law as an employment law and civil rights attorney.

<itunes:summary>How would you like to "pretend" for a living?

My guest this week, Max Wojtanowicz, does just that! It's tongue-in-cheek, but in a way it makes a lot of sense. As a stage actor, Wojtanowicz takes on various roles and for a brief moment becomes that individual.

Most recently, Max played the role of Tin Man in the Children's Theatre Company's production of 'Wizard of Oz.'

We caught up with him just before a rehearsal for his latest project - the role of Christopher Wren in Agatha Christie's The Mousetrap - a production put on by Shadow Play Theatre.

Enjoy the conversation!
About Max Wojtanowicz

Max Wojtanowicz is originally from the small town of Rice, Minnesota. Some of his first theater work took place in his best friend's basement where he played Captain Hook and ran the fly rail. A couple of years later he played a lost boy in a real theater, and he was never the same.

He graduated from St. Olaf College in 2006 with a degree in theater and a concentration in media studies. Since graduating, Max has been thrilled to work with several theaters throughout the Twin Cities and around Minnesota.

Max spent two seasons as a performing apprentice at the Children's Theatre Company in Minneapolis, the largest theater for children and families in North America and the only theater for young people to win the Regional Theatre Tony Award. Credits at CTC include their recent best-selling production of The Wizard of Oz as well as Dr. Seuss' The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins, Mr. McGee and the Biting Flea, Cinderella, Ramona Quimby, Romeo & Juliet (2009 Ivey Award winner), The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, Madeline and the Gypsies, The Magic Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle, Bud Not Buddy and Alexander and the Terrible Horrible No Good Very Bad Day. He also understudied productions of Average Family, A Year with Frog and Toad, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, and both characters in the world premiere of Bert and Ernie, Goodnight!

<itunes:summary>I first got word of Minncraft Boats thanks to my friend Ryan Ott and his IamMNnice.com project.

I couldn't help but find Rob Sheppard's story fascinating. After all, he left what was a successful business and, in the midst of our country's worse economic times, started a new business. Not just any business - a business that builds handcrafted, vintage, wooden boats!

With just two weeks before the delivery of his first boat - The Lexington - Rob and his partner Jeannette Jones were kind enough to join me in conversation!

Enjoy!
About Rob Sheppard and Minncraft

Rob Sheppard is a jack-of-all trades who's carving out a niche in the boat-building business. He's been working with his hands for as long as he can remember. Before creating Minncraft, a company that hand-builds vintage-style wooden boats in the tradition of 1930s and ‘40s classics, Rob worked in roofing and siding and formerly owned a custom cabinetry business (Centennial Woodcraft in White Bear Lake).

Minncraft Boats is a builder of handcrafted custom wooden boats using modern techniques and materials. With 26 years experience in the woodworking and boat building industry, we produce “new” classic wooden boats that are easy to maintain, yet have the beauty and quality of the original classics. Each boat is hand-built one at a time allowing complete customization.

The Lexington - the first boat built by Rob - will be featured at the Minneapolis Boat Show from January 19-22, 2012.

<itunes:summary>The Peace Corps traces its roots and mission to 1960, when then Senator John F. Kennedy challenged students at the University of Michigan to serve their country in the cause of peace by living and working in developing countries. From that inspiration grew an agency of the federal government devoted to world peace and friendship.

Since that time, 200,000+ Peace Corps Volunteers have served in 139 host countries to work on issues ranging from AIDS education to information technology and environmental preservation.

In 1968, my in-laws, Dick and Suzanne Burgart, joined Peace Corps 13 and made their way to Ethiopia. For two-years, they gave of their life, their time and their skills to the people of Ethiopia.

For this final episode of 2011, I chose to be in conversation with Dick Burgart. I've been a part of the Burgart family for more that 16 years and this episode marks the first time I've had an in-depth conversation with him about his (and my mother-in-law's) time in Ethiopia.

Enjoy the conversation!

About Jason Gray

Jason Gray is a contemporary Christian singer-songwriter born and raised in Minnesota who now lives near the Twin Cities area. He spent six years in youth ministry, before going into full-time music ministry in 1999 as an independent artist. Jason has a speech handicap, and as a stutterer, his work emphasizes finding strength in weakness.

Jason was honored as one of Ten Outstanding Young Minnesotans in 2003 by the Minnesota Junior Chamber for his volunteerism, civic leadership, and humanitarian work with World Vision's Hope Initiative, which addresses the needs of children orphaned by AIDS in Africa and other third-world countries. His passion for understanding service to the poor as a form of worship is expressed in his song "Fade With Our Voices" from his 2009 release Everything Sad Is Coming Untrue.

While his work has garnered gushing critical accolades, it wasn't primarily the literate craftsmanship of his songs that drew the immediate respect of his peers and a solid fanbase to him. It was, rather, Jason's candor, his transparency, his willingness to expose his own weaknesses night after night that created an inexplicable bond with audiences and prompted Centricity Music to sign him in 2006.

When a guy who grew up as a chronic stutterer in an abusive home takes the mic and obviously cares more about loving you than about what you think of him, you know something's up.

Gray's discography over his career is a logical progression from his earlier indie efforts to his recent ambitious outings that find him skillfully marrying his trademark deft lyrical expressions to smooth pop melodies and a disarming passion in a way that places him somehow simultaneously in multiple camps, instantly begging comparisons to a Brandon Heath on the one hand, and a Mark Heard or a Rich Mullins on the other. For his part, Jason is content to leave the genre-parsing to others, in favor of his more pressing agendas.

About Katie Kinzer

Katie Kinzer's passion for two seemingly different subjects led her on a rather unusual journey. In wedding her love for art with her interest in psychology, Katie fulfilled her life's dream of becoming an art therapist. Since receiving her B.A. in psychology and studio art from Concordia College, Moorhead, and her M.A. in art therapy from the University of Wisconsin, Superior, Katie has gained extensive experience in art therapy work. Katie offers art therapy at the Coborn Cancer Center (St. Cloud, MN) as a part of the Survivorship Network Program.

In working with adults, adolescents and children alike, Katie has become especially knowledgeable in implementing art as a tool to help clients move through trauma. One of her special talents is her ability to foster the healing process through providing a warm and non-threatening atmosphere, which allows clients to feel safe and contained. Clients of all ages have come to find comfort and place a deep trust in Katie's capacity to hold them through their journeys of inner healing.

About Stephanie Walker

Stephanie Alison Walker is an award-winning playwright whose work has been produced across the United States from New York City to Los Angeles and internationally in Australia, Canada, Singapore, The Philippines and Japan. American Home – her play about the foreclosure crisis – won American Blues Theater Company’s Blue Ink Award for Playwriting in 2011. She won the 2008 South Florida Theatre Festival Audience Favorite Grand Prize for The Women’s Theatre Project production of her play Three Fittings, a finalist for the prestigious Princess Grace Playwriting Award 2008 for The Art of Disappearing, and a semi-finalist for the 2009 HotCity Greenhouse Festival of New Plays in St. Louis.

Stephanie's book titled LOVE IN THE TIME OF FORECLOSURE (affiliate link) — and inspired by the blog of the same name — is a personal, frontline account of the entire foreclosure process, including the costs no one talks about - the gut-wrenched anxieties and a stress-tested marriage, along with endless support from family and friends. She narrates her and her husband's battle from their first foreclosure notice to the day they move out, complete with Kafka-esque lenders, last-ditch phone calls to the governor, realtors from hell and awkward looks across the office. She's sharing her story so others know what to expect - from lenders, from brokers, from the family across the street.

<itunes:summary>At some point or another, we've all had to ask for something. Whether we are asking for help, for money, for someone's hand in marriage, we all have an asking style.

Our guest this week, Andrea Kihlstedt, has spent the better part of the past 28 years thinking about "asking" and, through her research, she's identified four asking styles!

Do you know what you asking style is?

I encourage you to listen to our conversation and then head over to her website and take her free assessment!

Enjoy the conversation and happy asking!
About Andrea Kihlstedt

Andrea Kihlstedt is well-known as a consultant, writer and trainer in fundraising. Over the past 28 years, her clients have ranged from tiny start-up organizations to large national institutions. She has guided and goaded each of them to create the culture and context that will inspire people to ask. And in campaign after campaign, her clients have succeeded in raising more money than they had thought possible. Andrea has written two books on fundraising. The first, Capital Campaigns, Strategies that Work (affiliate link) is now in its third edition and has become a standard reference for organizations large and small. Her new book, How to Raise $1 Million (or More) in Ten Bite Size Steps (affiliate link) takes the lessons of the first book and boils them down into small nuggets punctuated by real-world stories.

<itunes:summary>One of the great things about hosting this podcast is the fact that I have had the privilege and honor of being in conversation with some amazing people.

This week is no different! Our guest, Tom Warth, is the founder of Books For Africa, a not-for-profit organization that has shipped more than 25 million books to Africa. He is also a great philanthropist and someone who is passionate about giving back to human kind.

Enjoy the conversation.
About Tom Warth & Books For Africa
Tom Warth came to the United States from Great Britain in 1960. In 1966, he started a book selling business. After more than 20 years, Tom sold the business to the San Francisco Chronicle in 1988. He took some time to travel the world. He left on an adventure and returned with a mission!

Books For Africa was founded that same year (1988) as a nonprofit (501.c.3) organization by Tom. It became his dream to ship donated books to the children of Africa. Tom’s visit to a Ugandan library, where books were almost nonexistent, inspired him to create a system for collecting discarded books from American schools, libraries, and publishers to send to Africa.

The mission of Books For Africa is to end the book famine in Africa. With your help, we will help create a culture of literacy and provide the tools of empowerment to the next generation of parents, teachers, and leaders in Africa.

Books donated by publishers, schools, libraries, individuals, and organizations are sorted and packed by volunteers who carefully choose books that are age and subject appropriate. We send good books, enough books for a whole class to use.

They are shipped in sea containers paid for by contributions from people like you. It costs about 50 cents to send a book from the United States to Africa. Since 1988, Books For Africa has shipped more than 24 million books to 46 African countries. They are on once-empty library shelves, in classrooms in rural schools, and in the hands of children who have never before held a book.

You can learn more about Books For Africa by visiting them online at www.booksforafrica.org or on Facebook!

About Kesra Hoffman
Kesra Hoffman, a native of Middletown, Maryland, has been painting landscapes of her home and travels since 1996. Growing up in an area rich with farmland and forests cultivated within her a passion for the natural world. She found a desire to share her excitement for the beauty around her as a child, traveling with her parents.

Kesra grew up on a wooded farm on South Mountain, in Maryland, where her studio continues to be. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art in 1994 from Principia College in Illinois, and as a post-graduate, painted and studied art in Europe for two months with other Principia art majors. After touring with cast E’95 of Up with People, she returned to Middletown to paint landscapes. Kesra exhibits her work in galleries, coffee shops, restaurants and at fine art festivals.

Kesra is a full time artist, painting landscapes and wall murals, binding books, and teaching classes, workshops and private art lessons. She travels worldwide to take painting workshops to keep her passion fresh, and incorporates these experiences into her artistic expression. Currently, she and her partner, Marc, are continuing renovation on a little old farm house and gardening on a few recently purchased acres.

Facebook is also big business! Each day they collect data and information on the likes and dislikes of their users. Just recently, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced some major changes to the way Facebook work and how we interact with it.

We thought we'd take this week's episode to discuss the latest changes with two Minnesota based social media experts.

PS - Join the conversation on Facebook by "liking" our fan page!
About Our Guests
Jackie Kaufenberg (a.k.a. @jkaufenberg) is a marketer from rural Minnesota and loves writing, social media, and everything web (working with Vivid Image Inc). My most important job is as mom to my 3 young kids. Being present, living each day to the fullest, and having fun along the way... With the help of lots of coffee, yoga, wine and friends.

Kaufenberg believes that social media has changed how people are doing business. Marketing is no longer a one-way conversation. The beauty of social media marketing is how it lets people engage with brands, and then share their passion for the brand with others online.

You can follow Jackie online on Twitter and at Vivid Image, Inc.

Lanae Paaverud (a.k.a @socialnetnanny) is an online retailer, with 11 years of experience in many Internet aspects. In running her own website, she quickly learned that Social Networking is an integral part of any business. You can advertise your product, but you also need to put a face to your site…a human aspect.

Paaverud believes that "If people don’t feel comfortable with who you are, or the product you represent, they won’t buy from you."

If the ultimate goal in life is doing what you love, Lanae is doing exactly that - Social Networking!

Our guest this week is both an entrepreneur and an inspiring individual. Ryan Ott, founder of IamMNnice.com, got the idea for his project in 2003 during a visit to New York City.

To date he's captured more than 60 videos that "share the best of Minnesota", the place we both call home.

Enjoy!
About Ryan Ott and I Am MN Nice
One of the reasons Ryan Ott started “I am MN nice” is to give Main Street Minnesota a voice. He believes the local musicians, hometown events and small business owners should have a fair shot at getting their message out there, without having to spend a ton of money to do so.

Over the last year he's been traveling the metro areas, small towns, and back roads of Minnesota to find unique and interesting things to share. Since the beginning, his focus has been on making videos of the great things in his home state of Minnesota.

:::: This episode originally aired on March 29, 2011 ::::
I am delighted to bring you my conversation with Michael Hyatt for episode #45.

I've been following Michael's blog for the past few years and was delighted that he accepted my invitation to be in conversation.

During our time together, Michael talked about leadership and life planning and did so in a way that is very inspirational. As is the case with most of my conversations for this podcast series, this one could have gone one for hours.

Enjoy!
About Michael Hyatt
Michael Hyatt is the Chairman of Thomas Nelson Publishers, the largest Christian publishing company in the world and the seventh largest trade book publishing company in the U.S.

He is an avid blogger and a good number of his posts are focused on “intentional leadership.” His philosophy is simple — if you are going to lead well, you must be thoughtful and purposeful about it.

He writes on leadership, productivity, publishing, social media, and, on occasion, stuff that doesn’t fit neatly into one of these categories.

Michael has worked in the book publishing industry for his entire career. He began at Word Publishing while a student at Baylor University and worked there for a total of six years. In addition to serving as Vice President of Marketing at Thomas Nelson in the mid-80s, he also started his own publishing company, Wolgemuth & Hyatt, with his partner Robert Wolgemuth in 1986. Word eventually acquired his company in 1992.

He was a successful literary agent from 1992 until early 1998. He rejoined Thomas Nelson in 1998. Since that time he's worked in a variety of roles in both divisional and corporate management. He was promoted to President and COO in February 2004 and CEO in August 2005. Shortly after our conversation, Michael retired as CEO but retained the role of chairman.

He's written four books, one of which landed on the New York Times bestseller list where it stayed for seven months. He is currently working on two new books, one on leadership and one on productivity.

You can learn more about Michael and subscribe to his blog at www.michaelhyatt.com. He is also active on Twitter at @michaelhyatt.

<itunes:summary>::: This episode originally aired on January 18, 2011 :::
Michael Bungay Stanier is one of the driving forces behind the new book titled End Malaria. The book, released last week is a collection of essays by 62 of America’s favorite business authors, including Tom Peters, Nicholas Carr, Pam Slim, and Sir Ken Robinson. Organized into three main sections—Focus, Courage, and Resilience — all essays in End Malaria share a desire to inspire readers to look within themselves for solutions to their everyday dilemmas and for motivation to realize their desires.

I've had the opportunity to read the book and I highly recommend it. The essays are great and you can help save lives.
Get your copy of the book today and $20 from the purchase of each copy of End Malaria will go to Malaria No More to send a mosquito net to a family in need and to support life-saving work in the fight against malaria.

<itunes:summary>For an entire nation, the date of September 11, 2001, will be known as the day the world changed. All of us, in one way or another, were affected by the events of that day.

We wanted to mark the anniversary of this day by bringing you a conversation with someone who was there that day. Our guest, T.J. Mannix has lived in New York City for more than 15 years and on the morning of 9/11/2001 - like all of us were - was shocked to see what was happening in his back yard.

Like many New Yorkers did, T.J. could not stay home and watch - he went to Ground Zero and put to work the training he had received from the Red Cross during his teenage years.

I'll let him share the rest of the story with you ...
About T.J.Mannix
T.J. Mannix is an actor, singer, comedian, and voiceover artist in NYC. He was born in Massapequa, Long Island and raised in Boca Raton, Florida. T.J. studied broadcast journalism at the University of Miami, Florida, and went on to live in 13 countries and 46 states. He left the corporate world to briefly get this acting thing out of his system - 15 years later he is still making a living as an actor and acting teacher.

He recently returned from four months of performing with the Second City, and is about to step into a pair of legendary boots in the Radio City Christmas Spectacular.

In the past month alone, the stock market has taken all of us on a roller coaster ride.

At The Conversation Hub we believe that through conversation, knowledge is shared. So this week, I've enlisted the help of a good friend to walk us through the basics in an episode we're simply calling "Econ 101."

<itunes:summary>::: The following episode was originally posted on February 21, 2011 :::
During my college years and my time living outside of Toronto, I was an avid listener of the Canadian Broadcast Corporation - Radio One's service. One of my favorite reporter and fill-in host was Dick Gordon.

When I moved to Minnesota in 2000, I quickly became a fan of Minnesota Public Radio/National Public Radio. In September of 2001, a few days after 9/11 a familiar voice came on the air … Dick Gordon was now the host of a WBUR show called The Connection.

As the host of The Story with Dick Gordon, he's been the source of many "driveway moments" for me. His interview style is second to none.

It was an honor and a privilege to engage him in conversation … and now, to share it with you.

As a side note … hopefully you can't tell, but I was really nervous for this one!

Enjoy it!
About Dick Gordon & The Story
Dick Gordon was a foreign correspondent and regular fill-in host for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's national radio program, This Morning.

He was also a Parliamentary reporter, and correspondent in Moscow and South Asia. Before coming to The Story, Dick was host of The Connection.

The Story has many 'parents'. They are the listeners to North Carolina Public Radio-WUNC, who seized the opportunity to help make this program happen.
Our listeners knew Dick Gordon from The Connection out of WBUR in Boston, a program he'd been hosting since 2001. But when the station canceled production of the show in 2005, many listeners were upset -- especially here in the Triangle. Many of them called or sent e-mail messages to the Chapel Hill station urging WUNC to bring Dick Gordon to North Carolina and to continue the program from here.

It's been a pleasure to watch "community and conversation" happen as people gather around Greg's cart and enjoy one of his amazing Vienna Beef dogs!

This episode marked a first for us - we recorded the conversation "on location" at Greg's cart. We even had the opportunity to bring in a customer into the conversation!

Enjoy the conversation!
About Greg Jodzio
Originally from Dearborn, MI, Greg Jodzio found his way to Hutchinson, MN by way of St. Paul and a few other places! As he likes to say, he was enjoying retirement and the good life when the market took a turn for the worse in 2008. Like many of us, his retirement savings took a hit and he decided to go back to work. Only this time he focused his time and energy doing something he loves ... making hot dogs!

When he's not busy serving one of his famous Doctor'd Dogs, Greg serves as the Micro Enterprise Specialist at the Southwest Initiative Foundation.

<itunes:summary>When I launched this podcast series more than a year ago, it was in part to bring life to something I firmly believe in - that through conversations, knowledge is shared.

Our conversation this week is all about sharing knowledge. Our guest, Laurent Soucie, is a beekeeper and as you'll hear during our conversation, he is passionate about what he does. Even after 15 years, Laurent still is mesmerized by bees and the critical resource they are for the survival and sustainability of our food sources.

Enjoy the conversation!
About Laurent Soucie
For Laurent Soucie, beekeeping is a passion, hobby and a summer business. He has is own apiary of 25 hives, processes his own honey, provides honey bee removal services for swarms or hives located in buildings, and educates the general public on bee keeping and the importance of bees to our food supply.

About 20 years ago after moving to the rural Scenic Lodi Valley area, Laurent Soucie was able to set up his own bee yard, honey house and raise his own bees for honey for the family.

 <itunes:summary>Through conversation, knowledge is shared!

I've know our guest this week for the past 10 years and I've always been fascinated by the work he does for living. Jim Fahey is an auctioneer - and to say he's one of the few left might not be too much of a stretch. It's not that auctioneers aren't in existence anymore, but the industry sure has changed.

We explore this topic and break down the mechanics of an auctioneer's chant during our conversation.

Please note, when we get to the "chant" - please note that all bidding is closed! (Wink! Wink!)
About Jim Fahey
Jim Fahey grew up in the family business and has been actively engaged since 1977. He was awarded the designation of the 1990 MN State Bid Calling Champion. He is also a Past President of the MN State Auctioneers Association, past Chairman of the MSAA Legislative Committee, seminar presenter for both State and National Auctioneers Association conferences, 2006 inductee into the Minnesota State Auctioneers Association Hall of Fame, as well as the 2002 recipient of the SW MN Foundation/Blandin Community Leadership Community Service Award. His most recent professional designation was received in February 2008 from the National Auctioneers Association as Benefit Auctioneer Specialist, (B.A.S.). Less than one percent of auctioneers in North America have this specialized training and designation.

The Sam Adams rep was so entertaining and knowledgeable that I couldn't resist inviting her, or someone from Sam Adams, to join me for a conversation. After a few emails, she connected with the staff in Boston and the rest is history!

I hope you enjoy my conversation with Sam Adams' Brewing Manager, Grant Wood!
About Grant Wood
Originally from Irving, Texas, Grant Wood is a Brewing Manager for The Boston Beer Company in Boston, Massachusetts and has been with Samuel Adams since 1995. During Grant’s career with BBC, he has been involved in such diverse activities as malting barley and hops selection, new product development including on his favorite brew, Samuel Adams Black Lager. He was also team leader of the “High Alcohol Brewing Projects” which produced the World Record holding Millennium and Utopias beers.

He began his career after attending Texas A&M University and receiving his B.S. in Food Science and Technology in 1984. After graduation Grant worked for a short time making picante sauce. He quickly left the salsa business and landed a job as a Chemist/Microbiologist at Pearl Brewing Company in San Antonio, TX and began his brewing career. Pearl sent Grant to the Siebel Institute of Technology, in Chicago, IL in 1987, and he returned to Pearl as a Brewing Supervisor. In 1989, Grant left Pearl to go to Lone Star Brewing Company as an Assistant Brewmaster. For six years at Lone Star, Grant managed all aspects of the brewing process from raw materials to the bright beer cellar.
