Betrayal Is Not The End

I’ve just returned from Maundy Thursday services at my church.  The gospel for the evening was focused on the last supper and the night where Jesus was betrayed by Judas.

This betrayal by Judas marked the beginning of a series of events that led to the crucifiction and ultimate death of Jesus. For Jesus, the betrayal by Judas signaled the beginning of the end.

You are probably wondering where I’m headed with this … just hear me out.

Judas (an external player) was the betrayer.  In our own lives we are, at times, our own betrayer (internal player), we are our own Judas.

We are our own Judas when:

  • We second guess our abilities.
  • When we convince ourselves that we can’t.
  • When we just go through the motion and stop caring.
  • When we compromise on the things that matter most to us.
  • When we use self-deprecating language to minimize our self-worth.
  • When we stop believing in ourselves.

There are moments each and every day when I am my worst enemy; moments when I am my own personal Judas.

The good news is that there is hope.  The gospel tells us that three days later Jesus rose again. Each day we can rise again. We can overcome those moments when we are standing in our own way.

“There’s always light after the dark. You have to go through that dark place to get to it, but it’s there, waiting for you. It’s like riding on a train through a dark tunnel. If you get so scared you jump off in the middle of the ride, then you’re there, in the tunnel, stuck in the dark. You have to ride the train all the way to the end of the ride.”  ~ Han NolanDancing on the Edge

Be well and make it a great day!
