We all have our definition of success. For some it’s involves money, a title, a specific completion time in a marathon, or some other random achievement. If you took a moment right now and asked the next five people you meet to define success; you’d get five different answers – all of them correct; all of them valid.
Success is a personal thing. We all measure it differently.
My wife is an elementary Montessori teacher at New Discoveries Montessori Academy. It’s her first year in that role (she’s spent the last two years as a teaching assistant at the same school) and I’m really excited that she is doing what she loves!
My youngest daughter is a student in her class and at the end of the first week of school she brought home this wonderful “recipe for success.” In a combined classroom (1st through 3rd graders) having this recipe card attached to a bag of trail mix is a great way to capture a child’s attention and encourage them to show it to their parents.
When I read the recipe and the ingredients it required, it occurred to me that this recipe applies to all of us. In all that we do, we need to put in the effort, kindness, some curiosity, a desire to learn, a commitment to teamwork and a sprinkle of pride to ensure we are successful.
I especially agree with the closing sentence: Success is always better when shared!
I’m not in elementary school anymore, but I sure appreciated having my daughter (and her teacher) share this recipe with me.
What other ingredients would you add?
Be well and make it a great day!
