#137: Resettling Big Stone County with Kathy Draeger

Play

Last week I had the opportunity to visit a part of the state I hadn’t visited in over three years.  During my time there, I had the opportunity to reconnect with Kathy Drager. She joined me in conversation and, together, we talked about life “smack dab in the middle of the prairie!”

Enjoy the conversation!

Thanks Kathy!  It was great to be in conversation with you. Might have to come back once “The Kitchen” project is up and running and invite Brent to join the conversation!  Be well.

A pleasant surprise on a snowy morning.
It was interesting to hear about your experience with the education system in a small town. When our daughter was in 4th grade, family circumstances led her to going to school for a quarter of the year in Minneapolis. We sent her to a private school that cost more for that quarter than tuition for 3 of our children in the parochial school here. When I registered her there, the staff was nice, but a little condescending. When it was time for conferences, there was not a trace of condescension left.
There is something about being able to navigate the small pond that can give children confidence to tackle the big pond. I was born in St. Paul and raised in Minneapolis, raising our kids here is something I will never regret.
We certainly did appreciate the mention of the Mill Theatre too.
I will be back to listen to more conversations on the Hub.
